Buffalo Schools Calendar 2007-2008 City Honors Day in Erie County Obscure (Yet Interesting) Facts About Our Building |
Obscure (Yet Interesting) Facts About Our BuildingMr. Jurich's math class recently went outside with some devices the students made to measure angle of elevation. Then using a trundle wheel, they measured distance along the ground to calculate the height of the school using trigonometry. According to Mr. Jurich, "it's a nice exercise because the kids can discuss and see all the pitfalls that can alter your measurements if you are not careful."They used the trundle wheel to measure the sidewalks. The wheel has a circumference of exactly one meter. Listening for the clicks that denote each full rotation of the wheel as it is rolled along the ground, the students can simply count and measure large distances without a tape measure or ruler. Here is a short multiple choice test about our school... Which sidewalk surrounding our beloved CHS block is longer?
The footprint of the CHS building is:
The School's rear tower (on the Armory side of the building) is how tall?
Just like a good blues tune the answers are: A. A. B.
The class was surprised that the Fosdick/Masten sidewalks are about 50 METERS longer than the Best St./E. North St. Sidewalks.
