Applying to City Honors

City Honors is a test based Magnet School. You must take an admissions test. The test is a paper and pencil test. It measures thinking and problem solving skills, not academic subject material such as math, reading, etc. Students will also be asked to write an essay from a choice of topics.

A portfolio is made for each candidate and is evaluated by a committee. The portfolio consists of:

    an entrance test
an essay written the day of the test
school records including grades and standardized test scores will be requested from your present school by City Honors. Parents do not need to request these records.
a teacher recommendation--a separate form for grades 5 - 8. It is included on the application for grades 9 - 12
    your application

Failure to supply all information will result in an incomplete folder and deny your entrance into City Honors School.

College Representatives at City Honors

Our school is a popular destination for College Reps. Most come in September and October. We also participate in the September CAO College Day where Juniors and Seniors travel to a central location to visit with participating college representatives. The list of visits is posted outside the Guidance office and is on the Morning Announcements the day of the visit.
