ELECTIONS and GOVERNMENT:
- Elections...the American Way explains how the US elects its president, what the electoral system is, and how primary elections work. Grade 5 and Up
- The Living Room Candidate is a wonderful primary source collection of presidential campaign commercials from 1952 to 2000. Students can compare and contrast these messages with today's campaign commercials. Grade 7 and Up
- Newseum: Every Four Years explores the last 100 years of presidential campaign coverage, from issues to media coverage by newspaper, radio, and television reports. Grade 5 and Up
- PBS Kids Democracy Project explains how the government influences the everyday lives of students. Clicking on "How Does Government Affect Me" allows students to explore inside their schools, libraries, fire stations, parks, and homes to learn how government touches their lives everyday. Grade 4 and Up
- U.S. Presidential Election Maps 1860-2000 provides excellent maps that illustrate both the popular and electoral vote election results from the mid-19th century to the present. These maps are visual aids that help students better comprehend how divided or connected the country was for each election. Grade 5 and Up
IRELAND
- Immigration is an excellent site on the history of Irish immigration into the U.S. It includes Irish contributions to America, how early immigrants adapted, found work, organized into labor groups, and Irish vocabulary. Grade 6 and Up
- World Factbook: Ireland is an exhaustive list of facts including a historical overview from the 4th century to the present and information on the country's geography, people, government, economy, military, and transportation. Grade 6 and Up
- Ireland's Millenia is a comprehensive database containing over 1500 biographies of Irish notables; 20 sub categories of Irish history from the Celts to the Vikings, from the Ulster Plantation to the potato famine, independence, home rule and Northern Ireland. Grade 9 - 12
- Irelandseye.com is a webzine that contains a multitude of short articles about Irish history, culture, food, and tourism. Grade 5 and Up
- The Irish Potato Famine is an authoritative site on the potato and the Irish Potato Famine. Students will read about the effects on the population of Ireland and the subsequant mass migration to Canada and America. Grade 6 and Up
