Spring Celebration 2004:  A Wonderful Night

On Friday, May 7, the CHS Foundation hosted its annual Spring Celebration at the King Urban Life Center.   Many from the CHS community, both past and present, attended to show their support for CHS and two of its exceptional members.   Mary Kiefer, a longtime CHS faculty member, was honored with the Michael. J. Anelli Award for Outstanding Service. Mrs. Kiefer, a teacher and coordinator of the International Baccalaureate Program, is well loved by students and faculty for her reassuring and no nonsense approach to all things. Although her administrative position places many demands on her time, she always makes time for the students, parents and faculty members who stop in for a visit or a little advice.

Ralph Proulx, parent and volunteer extraordinaire, received the Above and Beyond Award for his many contributions to the CHS community over the past several years. Mr. Proulx servers on the Foundation’s Technology Committee, is Vice President of PTSCO and offers printing and mailing services to various school clubs and organizations at the school. His company prints everything from the school’s directory to the calendar to graduation announcements.

The awards ceremony began with a song from the eighth grader with the magnificent voice Yolanda Reed.

Music also filled the air as guests arrived at the event. The Parkside Youth String Quartet played expertly performed classical pieces. The group includes: Teddy Gartner (08), Ana Vafai (07), Laura Levin-Gleba (08), Clare Foran (07). The evening was complete with food prepared by Globe Market and CHS parent chiefs.  It was professionally served by a wait staff of CHS students: Josh Russell (04), Joe Malinowski (05), Whitney Yax (05), Bethany Halbreich (08), Sara Welsh (05), Salma Mirza (05), Chelsea Tarasek (08) and Brigid Kelsey (08).

Many thanks to all who supported the event and to those who helped make it happen.   To the committee, Amy Friedman, Connie Hoyt, Sue Morrow, Cindy Silverstein, Jennifer Tronalone and Ellen Warner, to the faculty who showed their support in great numbers, and to the many volunteers, both parents and students, who arrived day-of to pull it all together, we thank you!   You all are what makes City Honors such an exceptional place to be!
