Financial Aid on the Web

Here are some sites for Financial Aid information:

FAFSA on the Web: Fill out and transmit the Free Application for Federal Student Aid.
Request a PIN. This is your electronic signature for FAFSA and renewal FAFSA on the WEB. Access your history and correct your Student Aid Report (SAR) online.
FinAid is the smart student guide to Financial Aid.
School Soup is a great site to search for college programs as well as scholarships.
FastWeb can help you find money for college.
Scholarships: the free college scholarship search and financial aid resource.
CollegeNet has many customized sites from colleges.

Here are two books we also recommend:

How to go to College (almost) for Free by Ben Kaplan
    Princeton Review: Paying for College

Beware of Scams!

If you have to pay for it, don't. There are many free, legitimate sites available. Beware of "free seminars." There is usually a hitch and you may find yourself involved in an uncomfortable, high pressure sales situation. Listed below are some of the sites to avoid:

FAFSA.com. You think you are going to the legitimate site (FAFSA.ed.gov) but you have to pay to get help that is available for free.
    easyFAFSA
Financial Aid Supersite.com: you end up paying or receiving solicitations.
National Scholars Honor Society: Thousands of students send in $50 and they only give five $1,000 scholarships. It's a real money maker--for them!
