Crew |
CrewCity Honors Crew is a club sport. The team trains at the West Side Rowing Club on Porter Avenue. We compete in local, regional, national, and international regattas.City Honors Crew is open to high school and 8th grade students. We recommend that students who want to join the team attend the summer Learn-to-Row Camp at West Side Rowing Club. We have 3 squads. Novices (first-year rowers) train and compete separately from varsity. Varsity men and varsity women practice separately, but go to the same regattas. Crew is year-round. In the fall, varsity squads practice 4 days a week and go to several weekend regattas. The team trains indoors during the winter. Spring is the peak rowing season. As soon as the ice melts, practice is held 6 days a week. From late April until early June, rowers compete almost every weekend, most often traveling to regattas in other cities. The New York Scholastic Championships are held in Saratoga Springs on Mother's Day weekend. Boats that qualify there go the Scholastic National Championships during Memorial Day weekend. During summer break, City Honors rowers are encouraged to row for West Side Rowing Club with athletes from other local schools. Several regattas occur during the summer, including the US Club National Rowing Championships and the Royal Canadian Henley Regatta.
